In vitro method for genotoxicity can only be used to evaluate a hazard and not a risk (which includes the knowledge of a dose-response curve)
Due to many uncertainties resulting from methodological and ethical reasons, extrapolation from in vitro to in vivo target organ dose is difficult. This project does only qualitative comparison of the hazards detected in vitro versus in vivo. However, at the level of chemicals safety testing, in vitro methods are routinely used to identify the genotoxic hazard. A genotoxic concern may trigger further investigations.
